This is all because I have free time...

Feb. 4th, 2008 08:55 pm I lost my dinner....

Watching Clover Field.

Yup, my dinner flushed down the toilet. Literally.

Here's the what happened:

5:00 PM - Wifey texted me "Gus2 mo mgmovie? :D". Of course I agreed. Not a good day at the office and I want something to take my mind of it.

6:00 PM - Left office, meet wifey, go to Trinoma

6:45 PM - Met with Wifey's mom, dad, bro, and our daughter (they have been malling :). Ate dinner at Pho Hoa (vietnamese restaurant). Had grilled pork and prawn. Yummmy!

7:45 PM - Movie starts. Looks promising.

8:15 PM - Not feeling well. Feels like the whole movie house is spinning.

8:30 PM - Check time (only 45 minutes into the movie?). I can already feel it. Said to wifey, "C.R. lang ako"

8:35 PM -

Scene 1: Guy inside movie house toilet. Not looking well

Guy :        "Dinner, meet toilet bowl. Toilet bowl, meet dinner."
Dinner:      "Let me outa here!"
Toilet bowl: "Yum, yum."

8:45 PM - Went back to my seat. Wifey said I didn't miss a lot. But right then I did not really care.

9:00 PM - Mercifully the movie ends.

And how do I rate Clover Field? I'd give it 5 out of 5 for audience impact. It had an impact on me. ;)

Jan. 31st, 2008 05:03 am C++ best practice #1

As an avid C++ disciple, I vow to post some C++ best practices that I picked up from work, from books, from other posts, etc. Note that I do not claim expertise (but I am aspiring for it), only avidness (is this even a word???)  =)

And now for the first one:

This one stuck into my mind, when I took a C++ proficiency exam for an Singapore job opening:

Always declare your destructor to be virtual and public.

Why? To allow polymorphic destruction. That is, if you will be deleting a dynamically allocated object through a base class pointer, most of the time, you would want the destructor of your object to be invoked instead of the base class destructor.

I actually got this one right because I have already read it somewhere (I don't remember where, but whoever the author is, thanks a lot! :)

Miss mo ko, no? OO ikaw. Miss mo ako di ba?

Wait lang! Bago ka mag-type ng bagon URL sa address bar ng browser mo, pakinggan mo muna ang maikli kong mensahe.

Yup! Maikli lang to. Parang nabahing ka lang. Kumbaga, mas mabilis pa sa isang bungtong-hininga.

Eto na, sasabihin ko na. :)

SALAMAT!!!

Bakit kamo? Kasi kung umabot ka pa dito sa linyang ito, nagke-care ka talaga para sa akin.

O ayan, nasabi ko na. Surf ka na ulit ng ibang website.

Jan. 18th, 2005 01:44 pm Home is a distant place

Having nothing to do at the office sometimes has its advantages. For example, you have time get in touch with your poetic side and hone you wordplay skill.  Or you can create trash like the one below. Cheers! =)

HOME IS A DISTANT PLACE

Home is that distant star that you  gaze at every night.

It’s the memories that comes alive at the most unexpected moment:

The smell of something cooking, picture that tugs at your heart,

and that faint humming of a tune that seems, oh! so familiar

and yet barely wavers at the edge of recognition.

And all your life you will always dream of home.

Of families and friends, warm smiles and all.

Of familiar places: the house, the park, the river,

and that cool shade under that big old tree.

Home is a distant place,

farther than the eyes can see.

Farther than the mind can fathom,

more remote than the deepest trench in the sea.

You will grow old and wither as anybody else does.

Your sight will fade, you hearing lost.

But you can still picture your my mind,

home in vivid colors, a riot of sight and sound.

And then the time comes when you can no longer get up from you bed,

when you have gulped you last breath, surrendering to the will of time.

As you walk towards that bright light,

your last thought would be...I'm coming home.

Jan. 14th, 2005 01:59 pm Bits and Pieces

I'm bored...Again.

It's seems this is a common affliction for me for the past few weeks...well, make that months.

I think it has something to do with a job that you are not really enthusiatic about.

I'm a software engineer (have I already told you that?). And it is by choice (I mean I did not go into the field because that's where the money is or because it is the trend). I like the technical part of work. But that is not what I'm doing now. I'm currently doing project management. That's right, M-A-N-A-G-E-M-E-N-T.

Am I boring you now? Let me see the yawn. :)

Ok, let's talk about something else. I'll give you a little bit more info about myself.

I'm a guy. A Filipino guy, in fact. And I'm married. Have been married for about 4 months now. Me and my wife are currently in Japan.

Yup, we're working in the land of the rising sun. The land were once the sword was the rule. The land protected by the Divine Wind.

Hey, maybe we could talk about Japan.

I can summarize in one word what Japan is all about: CONTRADICTIONS

On one hand you can seethe latest state of the art electronic gadgets. On the other hand, you can see the oldest of temples dotting the whole place.
You have young people in a kaleidoscope of fashion statement (punk, hiphop, gothic, animeish) while you can still see older people going about their daily life in traditional Japanese costume (with the matching wooded slippers).

Let me check the time first....15 minutes. The first part of this blog took only 15 minutes. Oh how time runs so slow!

Let's make it even at 30 minutes and then I'll quit. I like numbers with zeroes at the end better.

But I have to have my smoke. Oh well, till next time.

I quit.

Nov. 23rd, 2004 11:59 pm Stuck!

Its exactly 12:00 am. I'm sitting here in front of my computer.

And I'm stuck!

I don't know what I want to do. Surf? Read e-mail? Practice C++ programming? Write a journal/blog?

In the end, I chose "Write a journal/blog."

So here it is now - my first web journal entry.

Ain't I weird?
